Wood Siding is a favorite choice in the USA and Canada. There are four species that are used commonly. Choosing a wood siding can depend on the home style, budget and location.

• Pine - This softwood can be less expensive and is usually has knots. Knot-free can be found but is difficult and is also difficult to find in longer lengths. Pine stains and finishes wil but is not resistant, so sealing and maintenance is important. Pine is also known for splitting and cupping.
• Spruce - Another softwood, it is easily found in long lengths on the East Coast. This siding is similar to Pine and is not rot-resistant so proper sealing and maintenance are required.
• Fir - A member of the softwood family, this wood is milled easily and is used for torqu and groove projects. It is available mostly from West.
• Cedar - Cedar is rot-resistant, although it can be costly. It stains well and is split-resistant. Cedar may have good qualities but still has to be sealed and maintained to keep quality appearance.
• Redwood - An all around good choice. Redwood can perform well in any climate. It resists shrinking and retains it's finish, it is also insect-resistant. Obtainable easily out West, special order is how to get this wood.

• Hardie Panel - Same as the lap siding, it is a vertical siding protected by the 50-year transferrable limited product warranty.
